The core components and performance characteristics of magnesium-carbon bricks


Magnesium-carbon bricks are mainly composed of high-melting-point magnesium oxide (MgO, with a melting point of 2800°C) and carbon (such as graphite, with a melting point above 3000°C). There is no mutual melting point relationship between them, preserving their respective advantages in high-temperature resistance. The key performance characteristics include:


1.Resistance to slag erosion: MgO has strong resistance to alkaline slag. Graphite reduces the wetting property of the molten slag. Spinel reacts to block pores and capture FeO and MnO.
2.Thermal stability: The low expansion and high thermal conductivity of carbon, combined with the volume expansion during the formation of spinel, reduces thermal shock damage.
3.Physical properties: Porosity is 3% to 10%. High compressive strength at room temperature, but high carbon content leads to a large thermal conductivity.

1.Ingot/electric furnace lining, used in steelmaking oxygen converters and high-power electric furnaces, can withstand high-temperature erosion and corrosion resistance.
