High-Quality Magnesia Carbon Brick (MgO≥70%-82%) - Core Refractory For Steel Converters, Electric Arc Furnaces & Ladles

Our Magnesia Carbon Brick is a premium composite refractory for high-temperature metallurgy, made from high-purity fused magnesia (MgO≥70%-82%), high-grade flake graphite (C≥8%-18%), and metal antioxidants (Al, Si, B₄C) via ≥2000-ton high-pressure molding and low-temperature curing. It combines magnesia’s alkaline slag resistance with graphite’s high thermal conductivity/low expansion, boasting ultra-high refractoriness (MgO melting point up to 2800℃), strong corrosion resistance (apparent porosity ≤5%), and reliable thermal shock resistance (≥20 cycles of 1100℃→room temp water quenching). It solves issues like short service life of ordinary bricks, frequent furnace shutdowns, and steel leakage, widely used as linings for steel converters, electric arc furnaces, ladles, and refining furnaces to stabilize processes and cut costs. Backed by ISO 9001, CE, SGS, and TüVRheinland, with 150,000 tons annual capacity, we offer factory-direct pricing ($325-$550/ton) and full customization for global steel needs.

Description

1. Product Overview

This Magnesia Carbon Brick is manufactured through advanced industrial processes to balance "high-temperature stability" and "structural durability":

(1)Raw Material Selection: High-purity fused magnesia (Fe₂O₃≤1.5%, CaO≤0.6%) ensures alkaline slag resistance; flake graphite (fixed carbon ≥98%, particle size 0.1-0.5mm) enhances thermal conductivity; metal antioxidants (Al/Si alloy powder) prevent graphite oxidation at high temperatures.

(2)High-Pressure Molding: A 2000-3000 ton press forms dense blanks (bulk density ≥2.84g/cm³), minimizing internal pores (apparent porosity ≤5%) to block slag infiltration.

(3)Low-Temperature Curing: Heat treatment at 200-300℃ cures the phenolic resin binder, avoiding graphite burnout while ensuring brick integrity.

(4)Precision Machining: Post-curing CNC cutting achieves dimensional tolerance of ±0.5mm, making it suitable for irregular furnace structures (e.g., converter tap-holes, ladle slag lines).

2. Key Features

Ultra-High Temperature Stability: MgO has a melting point of up to 2800℃, and graphite has a melting point of ≥3000℃-no melting or softening at steelmaking temperatures (1600-1800℃); working temperature range is 1700-1800℃, and the refractoriness under load (0.2MPa) is ≥1650℃, suitable for converter molten bath zones and electric furnace hearths.

Superior Slag Erosion Resistance: High MgO content (70%-82%) resists corrosion from alkaline steel slag (main component CaO); low apparent porosity (3%-5%) blocks slag infiltration-service life of converter linings reaches 18-24 months (twice that of alumina-carbon bricks).

Excellent Thermal Shock Resistance: The high thermal conductivity of graphite (10-15 W/m·K) quickly dissipates thermal stress; the low thermal expansion coefficient (4.5×10⁻⁶/℃) reduces cracking caused by rapid temperature changes (e.g., furnace startup/shutdown), with thermal shock cycles ≥20 times (water quenching at 1100℃).

Low High-Temperature Creep: The dense structure (bulk density ≥2.84g/cm³) plus the addition of metal antioxidants minimizes high-temperature deformation (creep rate ≤0.5% at 1600℃ for 50h)-maintaining the shape of the tapping hole and stable steel flow.

High Mechanical Strength: Cold crushing strength is ≥30-45MPa (varies by grade), and flexural strength is ≥6MPa-resisting mechanical impact from molten steel splashing and furnace rotation, with a brick breakage rate ≤2% during installation.

4. Application Scenarios

(1) Iron and Steel Metallurgy Industry (Accounting for over 90%)

Converters:

Core areas such as furnace body, furnace bottom, and tapping hole (recommended grades: MT-8A/MT-10A)-resisting erosion from molten steel at 1600-1800℃ and alkaline slag, extending the converter maintenance cycle to 18-24 months (only 12 months for traditional bricks).

Electric Arc Furnaces:

Linings for furnace walls, furnace bottom, and tapping hole (recommended grades: MT-10B/MT-12A)-adapting to frequent thermal shocks (arc heating → cooling), reducing lining cracking and the risk of molten steel leakage.

Steel Ladles:

Ladle walls, ladle bottom, and slag line areas (recommended grades: MT-14A/MT-16A)-withstanding high temperatures (1550-1650℃) and mechanical vibration during molten steel transportation, with a service life of 120-150 heats.

Refining Furnaces (LF Furnaces):

Linings and impact zones (recommended grades: MT-12B/MT-14B)-resisting erosion from alloy slag during refining, ensuring molten steel purity.

(2) Other High-Temperature Fields

Non-Ferrous Metallurgy:

Linings for copper and nickel smelting converters (recommended grades: MT-16B/MT-18A)-resisting erosion from acidic/alkaline non-ferrous metal slag, avoiding metal contamination.

Cement Industry:

Linings for the burning zone of large cement rotary kilns (low-iron formula customization required, recommended grade: MT-10B)-withstanding high temperatures of 1400-1500℃ and erosion from alkaline cement clinker.
