Lightweight Silica Brick
Lightweight silica bricks are a commonly used building material, which are made of lightweight micro powder, silica sand, clay and other raw materials through a certain ratio and process
Description
What are lightweight silica bricks?
Lightweight silica bricks are widely used in construction, thermal insulation, heat insulation, fire protection and other fields due to their low density, high strength, good thermal insulation and seismic resistance. Lightweight silica bricks have a density about 1/3 lighter than ordinary silica bricks, so they have better thermal conductivity and thermal insulation properties, which can effectively reduce the energy consumption of buildings. At the same time, it also has good durability and compressive resistance, which can meet the safety and stability requirements of buildings during use. In addition, the manufacturing process of lightweight silica bricks is relatively simple, the production cost is low, and it is easy to process and install, so it has been widely used in the construction field.
Size of lightweight silica bricks
There are many sizes of lightweight silica bricks, the commonly used ones are 600×200×thickness, and the thicknesses are 100, 120, 150, 200, 240mm, etc.
The sizes of lightweight bricks are 600mm*240mm*100mm, 600mm*240mm*120mm, 600mm*240mm*150mm, 600mm*240mm*200mm and other sizes. The ones that are less used in daily life are: 600mm*200mm*100mm, 600mm*200mm*120mm, 600mm*200mm*150mm, 600mm*200mm*200mm.

Lightweight silica brick
What is the density of lightweight silica bricks?
Below 1.2g/cm³
Lightweight silica bricks are a very special material, which is an acidic material with a silica content of more than 92%. It is characterized by resistance to acidic slag erosion. It has high high temperature strength. The load softening starting temperature is 1450~1670℃. And it will not deform after long-term use at high temperature. Lightweight silica brick is also a kind of lightweight insulation brick, which has higher heat resistance temperature than lightweight clay brick. It can reduce heat loss and increase the efficiency of melting process when used in insulation parts. Lightweight silica brick has good thermal insulation performance in the raised lower part of the glass kiln arch. The insulation layer is designed as two or more layers. Lightweight silica bricks with volume density of 1.0 and 1.2 are more commonly used. There are also 0.8 volume density. The fire clay of lightweight silica brick is siliceous fire clay. Lightweight silica brick is used in the blast furnace blast part, which is connected to the exhaust fan of the blast furnace. The use temperature range of lightweight silica brick is between 1000~1300℃. It can meet the entire cycle life of the hot blast furnace. Lightweight silica brick has no crystal change above 600℃. The expansion coefficient is small. It has high thermal shock resistance. Below 600℃, the crystal form changes greatly, the volume changes greatly, and the thermal shock resistance becomes poor. Lightweight silica bricks are made of natural silica as raw materials, with the addition of mineralizers, and slowly fired at 1350-1430℃ in a reducing atmosphere. Lightweight silica bricks are also used in the partition walls of the carbonization chamber and combustion chamber of the coke oven, the heat storage chamber and slag chamber of the steelmaking flat furnace, the soaking furnace, the glass melting furnace, the firing kiln of refractory materials and ceramics, etc. It is also used for the vault and other load-bearing parts of the kiln. It is also used for the high-temperature load-bearing parts of the hot blast furnace and the top of the acidic flat furnace.
How high is the temperature resistance of lightweight silica bricks
The refractory temperature of lightweight bricks is usually around 1000 degrees.
Its advantages are: it can reduce the cost of the foundation, and the design and use of lightweight bricks can reduce the comprehensive cost compared to solid clay bricks; it can increase the use area and have a good insulation effect; it has good processability, is convenient and simple to construct, and because of its large size and light weight, it can improve construction efficiency and shorten the construction period. Lightweight bricks have been widely used in medium and high temperature industrial furnaces in the oil refining, chemical and metallurgical industries due to their unique advantages.

Lightweight silica brick production process
- Raw material preparation: The main raw material is crystalline silica, the auxiliary raw material is silica sandstone, the mineralizer is burnt gypsum, and the binder is sulfite pulp waste liquid. First, silica and silica sandstone are made into fine powder with a particle size of less than 0.088mm, mixed according to the above ingredients and added with 30~40% water. After grinding, the mud density is controlled to be 1.7~1.8g/cm³.
- Preparation of foaming agent: Sodium rosinate foaming agent is prepared by saponification with rosin and alkali. The ratio is rosin: water: NaOH = 10:10:1. After the three are mixed and heated, they are added into the gelatin solution. The ratio of gelatin is gelatin: water = 22:78. Before using the foaming agent, dilute the foaming agent with 4~5 times hot water and foam for 10~15min.
- Preparation of foam mud: Put silica mud and foaming agent in a beating drum to prepare foam mud. In order to improve the strength of the semi-finished product, 1% bone glue and 0.5% alum can be added.
- Molding: Molding is carried out on a drying car. Spread newspaper on the aluminum plate of the drying car, inject the mud into the mold, and then knock the mold frame with a small hammer to make the foam mud vibrate so that the structure of the blank is uniform.
- Drying: Push the drying car carrying the blank into the tunnel dryer for drying. The inlet temperature of the dryer is 100~120°C, the outlet temperature is 50~60℃, the drying time is 20~24h, and the residual moisture of the blank after drying is less than 0.05.
- Firing: The firing of lightweight silica bricks is carried out in a downdraft kiln, the firing temperature is 1360~1370℃, and the heat preservation is 40~48h. The products out of the kiln are finished products after cutting and grinding.
By controlling the difference in slurry density, lightweight silica bricks with a volume density of 0.65~1.20g/cm³ can be manufactured.
