Unshaped Mud
Our Unshaped Refractory Mud is a blend of inorganic cementitious materials, fine aggregates, and water. It offers excellent workability (easy to apply) and, once hardened, provides strong bonding & cohesion. Ideal for patching, sealing, and bonding in industrial kilns, furnaces, and high-temp equipment. Withstands extreme heat and resists thermal shock.
Description
1. What is It?
Unshaped Refractory Mud is formulated by mixing inorganic cementitious materials, fine aggregates, and water in precise proportions. Its key trait is excellent workability (easy to spread/apply), and after hardening, it develops high strength and cohesion – perfect for repairing or bonding refractory parts in high-temp environments.
2. Classification
Based on composition, Unshaped Refractory Mud has 3 main types – each suited to different temp/industry needs:
Lime Mortar: Made from lime paste, sand, and water. For low-strength, dry masonry/plastering (e.g., non-moisture industrial walls).
Cement Mortar: Blended from cement, sand, and water. Ideal for wet environments (e.g., masonry in contact with water, wet industrial walls).
Mixed Mortar: Adds admixtures (fly ash, diatomaceous earth) to cement/lime mortar. Saves cement/lime usage while boosting workability – common types: cement-lime mortar, cement-clay mortar, lime-clay mortar.
3. Technical Parameters
| Parameter | Fire Clay Type | High Alumina Type (70% Al₂O₃) | High Alumina Type (60% Al₂O₃) | Silica Type (92% SiO₂) |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| Grain Size (-0.076mm, ≥%) | ≥50 | ≥50 | ≥50 | ≥50 |
| Bonding Time (min) | 1–2 | 1–2 | 1–2 | 1–2 |
4. Key Advantages
Easy to Apply: Excellent workability – can be troweled, poured, or packed easily (saves labor during installation).
Strong Bonding: Hardens into a cohesive, high-strength layer – ensures refractory bricks/parts stay bonded in high-temp conditions.
High Temp Resistance: Different types handle temps from 1000℃ to 1500℃ – matches various kiln/furnace operating temps.
Thermal Shock Resistance: Stays stable under rapid temp changes (common in kiln startup/shutdown).
Customizable: Adjust composition (e.g., Al₂O₃/SiO₂ content) to fit your specific equipment's temp and environment.
5. Applications
Industrial Kilns/Furnaces: Patching cracks in refractory linings, bonding refractory bricks in ceramic kilns, glass furnaces, and steelmaking furnaces.
High-Temp Equipment: Sealing gaps between refractory parts in heat treatment ovens, boiler furnaces, and incinerators.
Masonry Work: Building and repairing low-strength, dry/wet masonry in industrial plants (based on mortar type).
6. Service & Support
Custom Formulation: We'll adjust Al₂O₃/SiO₂ content, grain size, or bonding time to match your equipment's needs. Just share your kiln's temp and usage scenario.
Samples: Free 1kg sample (you cover freight) to test workability and bonding strength before bulk orders.
Technical Guidance: Our team helps with selection (e.g., choosing between fire clay/high alumina/silica types) and provides application tips.
