High Alumina Brick vs High Alumina Castable

Dec 25, 2024

High-aluminum bricks and high-aluminum castables are important components of refractory materials and are widely used in the masonry of high-temperature industrial kilns. The common feature of these two is that their compositions contain a large amount of Al2O3, and both have the ability to resist high temperature corrosion. However, there are significant differences between them, mainly reflected in the following aspects.

High Alumina Brick vs High Alumina Castable

High Alumina Brick vs High Alumina Castable

1. There are differences in form.
High alumina bricks are shaped refractory materials with fixed shapes and sizes. The usual standard refractory brick size is 230mm x 114mm x 65mm. High-aluminum castables are amorphous refractory materials with no fixed shape. They usually exist in powder form and are stored in bags.

2. The production methods of the two are different.
The production process of high alumina bricks is to mold the proportioned raw materials under high pressure and then sinter them at high temperature to finally form a certain shape. In contrast, the production of high-aluminum castables only requires the raw materials to be prepared in proportion and then bagged, eliminating the need for high-temperature sintering steps.

3. The construction methods are also different.
During the construction process, high alumina bricks can be used directly, but they usually need to be used in conjunction with high-temperature cement. High-aluminum castables need to be stirred with water first, then poured into a fixed mold, dried and shaped, and then baked in the entire kiln before they can be put into use.

Although both high-alumina bricks and high-aluminum castables can be used for kiln masonry, the differences in form, production technology and construction methods make high-aluminum castables have obvious advantages in applications with complex construction and special shapes. .
